Do

Walk along the Waterfront
Geelong has a spectacular waterfront and the best way to see it is to walk from Easter beach to Rippleside and back (7km). There are bollards which are renowned to Geelong and have just recently been upgraded. At Christmas time there is a floating Christmas tree and there is a plethora of other activities and things to see along the way. It is also a great place to catch the sunset

Leura Park Estates

This was recommended to me. Not necessarily for the winery but they run a Segway tour out of winery as well. This creates a unique twist and isn’t overly expensive. For $128 we had a 90 minute Segway tour around the estate and learnt about the regions wine and the grapes grown in the vineyard. The tour was a lot of fun and a very exciting way to visit a winery. I highly recommend if you are visiting the area to book yourself in or gift it to a friend. At the end of the tour we had a tasting of the estates wines and then chose one from the selection to have while we had a sharing plate and pizza. All of which was included in the cost

Surf Coast

Geelong is only 20-30 minutes from great beaches like Jan Juc and Torquay. I love to walk the Bells track from Jan Juc to Bells Beach car park and cool down in the ocean before relaxing on the beach. If sunbaking isn’t for you there is also the surf shops and a great golf course.

Shopping
There is Westfield that has all the essentials.
Down the river end of Pakington Street there is Tinky, Decjuba and Seed. At the other end of Pakington Steeet there is Argentina – great for more boutique brands. Witchery and a lot of homeware stores.

Stay

I would suggest trying to Air BnB as there is minimal nice accomodation for those on a budget. This way you have more options as to the area as well. I would recommend being as close to the waterfront as possible as it is a great area especially if you have a view and it’s close to town and the train station.
For those not on a tight budget the Sheraton appartments are great and they do high tea on the weekend.

Photograph

In my opinion the best place to photograph Geelong is on the waterfront. You can get both sunset and sunrise and there is a plethora of other interesting things going on at the same time
