I spent a 48 hours exploring Geneva in the middle of Autumn after visiting Zurich earlier in the week (you can read my blog posts here and here). While I was there I stayed at Hotel N’vY which was perfectly located right by the lake.
I mainly wandered around Geneva with no specific plan and since it was the middle of autumn, everything looked beautiful so I spent a lot of time walking through the parks.
The autumn colours were breathtaking.
I paid a visit the UN and the WTO but I didn’t have time to go inside. If you visit Geneva you can pre book tours so you don’t miss out.
Like many European cities Geneva has an old town full of beautiful buildings.
I went to see the Jet d’eau however I arrived on the first day of a month of maintenance so it wasn’t running.Lake Geneva is stunning from wherever you choose to view it.
I could see the lake from my bathroom window at Hotel N’vy and it was spectacular especially with all the autumn trees lining Lake Geneva.
Hotel N’vy was the perfect place to come back to after a long day of being a tourist. It was close enough to the main station that you could walk and only a few minutes from a tram stop.
I even got given a free public transport card so that I could get around with ease!
The lobby was beautifully designed with wall murals and art everywhere. So when I sat and ate a quick breakfast I had plenty to look at.
Reblogged this on Ephemereality and commented:
I love the pictures here. I’ve never been to Geneva, but hope to go someday.
I was particularly curious about the big chair. I looked it up: It’s a sculpture called “The Broken Chair” and it’s almost 40 feet high. It was built to symbolize opposition to land mines and cluster bombs, according to Wikipedia. Intriguing.

I was lucky in Geneva and had completely clear days a bit sunny but still pretty cold.

Great photos (are you on Instagram we are @twodoctors) and a nice reminder of what a beautiful city this is. I have only ever passed through en route to Swiss/French Alps for climbing, must stop and look more closely! Thanks.

I love spending at least one day just enjoying the city with nothing special to do or see. Wandering is so enjoyable.

I agree, you stumble across unexpected things if you just wander aimlessly

That is what is so exciting about wandering and getting lost in a city.

Thank you for your “likes”. It’s a long time since I saw Geneva – brought me right back.Sorry about the jet d’eau. Better luck next time. The first picture under “What” (Melboutne?) looks like a watercolour.

I was looking to your pictures and it suddenly make me feel longing with Geneva. I lived in Geneva last year during the summer. And for me, it was the best season before the autumn season. There were many festivals, beautiful fireworks in the lake and many good events outside. Next time you should go back on that season! 🙂
